The Cape Hatteras Scarf pattern
Supplies:
Size US 7 needles (or any size you like, really – however large you’d like the st to be!)
Any sport weight yarn would work for this pattern – I used Lion Brand Wool Ease. If using that brand, you will need two skeins.
Cast on 26 st.
There is a 4-row ribbing at the beginning and end of the scarf:
Row 1 – K2, P2
Row 2 – K on K, P on P
Row 3 – K2, P2
Row 4 – K on K, P on P
Start pattern:
R1 – K1tbl, P1, K6, K1tbl, P1, K6, K1tbl, P1, K6, K1tbl, P1
R2 – P1, K1, P6, P1, K1, P6, P1, K1, P6, P1, K1
R3 – K1tbl, P1, 3/3 LC, K1tbl, P1, 3/3 LC, K1tbl, P1, 3/3 LC, K1tbl, P1
R4 – P1, K1, P6, P1, K1, P6, P1, K1, P6, P1, K1
R5 – K1tbl, P1, K6, K1tbl, P1, K6, K1tbl, P1, K6, K1tbl, P1
R6 – P1, K1, P6, P1, K1, P6, P1, K1, P6, P1, K1
R7 – K1tbl, P1, K6, K1tbl, P1, K6, K1tbl, P1, K6, K1tbl, P1
R8 – P1, K1, P6, P1, K1, P6, P1, K1, P6, P1, K1
Repeat R1-R8 of pattern, until scarf is as long as you like, making sure you end with a R6 or R8.
Then, repeat the 4-row ribbing from the beginning of the scarf. Weave in ends.
Abbreviation Explanations:
K1tbl – Knit 1 through the back loop. When knitting this st, instead of putting the needle through the front of the loop, put it through the back.
3/3 LC – This is a 6 st left cross cable – when you get to the 3/3 LC, sl 3 sts to the cable needle, hold in front. K3, then K3 from the cable needle.
